(the name means New Ground Place) is one of the rare places
that retains the same name and is located on the exact site of an
original Cherokee Indian settlement. Ellijay is located on the west
bank of the Ellijay River. In Ellijay the Ellijay and Cartecay Rivers
come together to form the Coosawattee River. In the town square there
are many unique shops to visit and when you get hungry, you will find
a variety of restaurants.Near by is the white water of the Ocoee River,
great for rafting. The
nearby Chattahoochee National Forest is a great place togo horseback riding
